Vision

Mental Health America of York and Adams Counties envisions a world in which every individual pursuing mental wellness is afforded the respect, dignity, and opportunity to reach their fullest potential, not only as individuals but also as valued members of their communities. This vision includes a commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to thrive, regardless of their mental health challenges. The organization believes that all people should be free from discrimination, stigma, and prejudice, creating an inclusive environment where mental health is prioritized, understood, and openly discussed, ultimately leading to healthier, more connected communities.

Values

  • Justice demands every person, regardless of disability, and other characteristics such as race, ethnicity, spirituality, gender, age, economic status or sexual orientation, has the rights and responsibilities of full participation in society.

  • Wellness is essential to the healthy development and realization of every person’s full potential.

  • Sufficient resources need to be applied to a complete range of mental health research, and then effectively applied to interventions, education, treatment, and community services.

  • People with mental illnesses can recover and live healthy and productive lives.

  • Medical treatment for mental health issues should not have more limits on access and reimbursements than other illnesses.

  • Services must be linguistically and culturally appropriate.

  • Children with, or at risk of, serious emotional disturbances, their families or surrogate families must have access to high quality, community-based, culturally competent, integrated mental health services, regardless of the ability to pay.

  • All consumers, parents and families are unique and essential participants in providing advocacy, services, education and training.

  • The promotion of mental wellness and the prevention of mental, emotional and social problems is the responsibility of every person and social institution in the community.

  • Mental Health America of York and Adams Counties values inclusiveness and cultural competence at all levels of the movement and envisions broad-based citizen participation as essential to community mental health.
